WILLEMSTAD- May 19, 2021 – Outgoing Minister of Economic Development Dr. Steven Martina, on behalf of the Government of Curaçao, together with Curaçao Tourist Board (CTB) CEO Paul Pennicook, recently signed an implementation agreement for the official transfer of funds in connection with the third phase of the Marie Pampoen Recreational Area project.
In recent years, many improvements have been made to the infrastructure in the Marie Pampoen area, which has no doubt not gone unnoticed by the public. The improvements are all part of a master plan to create an attractive area, with economic activities for the community of Curaçao, especially those living in or close to the neighborhood of Marie Pampoen. Ultimately, the area will also serve as a tourism product where visitors can mingle with locals. It has already become quite popular with the local community, and is being used for different recreational activities, events and sports. The third phase will focus on the middle section of the Marie Pampoen Recreational Area and includes among others a beach on land with palapas, a playground, an open-air fitness area, a skating – bicycle park, a pier, a beach volleyball court, bathrooms, 3 small business kiosks, landscaping, benches, etc.
The CTB has been tasked with coordinating the project and will soon initiate the tendering process.
