WILLEMSTAD – May 30, 2024 – Recently, the Curaçao Tourist Board completed a Social Impact Report, based on the organization’s contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The SDGs consist of 17 goals formulated by the United Nations as a universal call to action to eliminate poverty, protect our planet, and ensure that by 2030, all people can live in peace and prosperity. From this perspective, CTB, as an organization, took the initiative to have the D-TAP Foundation prepare a report on CTB’s contributions to the SDGs. The report helps identify and measure the impact of CTB’s activities that contribute to sustainable development. CTB’s Counterpart Director, Mr. Muryad de Bruin, accompanied by Mrs. Lara Melkert from D-TAP Foundation, officially presented the report to the Minister of Economic Development, Mr. Ruisandro Cijntje.
By reporting CTB’s contributions to the SDGs, CTB promotes transparency in its actions, which is important for stakeholders such as the government, the local community, and tourists. The CTB report provides a summary of the initiatives executed by CTB in 2021 and 2022 that contributed to the SDGs. These include projects and programs that have contributed to economic development, poverty reduction, improved health and well-being, increased access to quality education, and ecosystem protection. The report includes the results of these initiatives and provides recommendations for future improvements.
The report was prepared by Mrs. Lara Melkert of the D-TAP Foundation. Ms. Melkert has extensive knowledge and experience in sustainable development through international tasks she carried out and training sessions she followed which were facilitated by the European Union and the United Nations. The foundation’s mission is to promote sustainable practices and work together with organizations and individuals who share the same goal. The results and recommendations included in the report will help CTB optimize strategies and activities to better contribute to sustainable development goals in the future.
