Willemstad, October 18, 2024 — The Curaçao North Sea Jazz Festival (CNSJF) made a triumphant return from August 29 to 31, 2024, marking its tenth edition after a five-year hiatus. Held at the World Trade Center in Willemstad, the event drew 6,232 international attendees, reaffirming its status as one of the Caribbean’s premier cultural events. These visitors, who enjoyed all three days of the festival, were joined by 5,000 excited local fans.
More than just a musical event, the festival brought an extraordinary economic boost to the island, blending seamlessly with Curaçao’s cultural identity and creating an infectious celebratory spirit that embodied the essence of “One Beat, One Island.” This vibrant atmosphere reflected how deeply the festival is woven into the fabric of the island’s soul. Set against the stunning backdrop of Curaçao’s landscapes, this year’s event featured an all-star lineup, including Marc Anthony, Juan Luis Guerra, Jennifer Hudson, Joss Stone, Eros Ramazzotti, and Maluma, among others.
A Major Economic Driver
The 2024 CNSJF proved to be an economic powerhouse for Curaçao, generating over $14.2 million in combined direct and indirect spending. “Festival-Passion Tourists,” who accounted for 78.9% of attendees, traveled specifically for the event and spent an average of $1,854.95 per person. This influx of high-spending visitors, primarily from the Netherlands, USA, Venezuela, Colombia, Aruba, and Suriname, contributed more than $9 million in direct spending, while indirect benefits added another $5 million.
This financial impact rippled through Curaçao’s local businesses, hotels, restaurants, and tourism services, significantly boosting economic activity across the island. Additionally, with 84% of attendees expressing plans to return and recommend the island to others, the festival’s long-term economic influence extends well beyond the event itself, positioning Curaçao as a leading cultural and travel destination.
A Super Celebration of Culture and Community
CNSJF 2024 was not just a festival—it was a celebration of life, culture, and resilience. Following global disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the festival symbolized a revival of the arts and a reawakening of Curaçao’s role on the international cultural stage. Its seamless organization, top-tier performances, and integration with the island’s local charm reinforced Curaçao’s status as a premier cultural hub.
With 87.5% of attendees expressing favorable impressions of the island and over 80% feeling a strong connection to both the festival and Curaçao, the CNSJF left a lasting legacy. The festival beautifully showcased the rhythms of paradise intertwined with the magic of Curaçao North Sea Jazz. As it continues to grow, the festival plays a vital role in shaping Curaçao’s future as a destination where music, culture, and community flourish together.
