Starting December 18
WILLEMSTAD – October 21, 2024 – The Curaçao Tourist Board (CTB) is pleased to share that the airline Wingo has introduced a new route to Curaçao from Medellín, Colombia’s second-largest city, starting December 18. With this new route, Wingo will have two flight connections to Curaçao: from Bogota and now also from Medellín. Flights from Medellín will operate twice a week on Wednesdays and Saturdays during the high season. With the new connection, Wingo will offer nearly 3,000 seats per month for both connections to Curaçao.
The new Wingo connection will be available during the high season, including December, January, June, July, and August. This direct flight from Medellín will give Curaçao the chance to attract more Colombian tourists while providing additional travel options for the local community. Starting today, Wingo is launching promotions for the new connection with special prices.
“We are pleased to add this new route between Colombia and Curaçao, continuing to contribute to the bilateral flow of visitors and tourism between the two countries. With this new route, many more Colombians, especially those from Medellín, will want to travel and experience the beautiful beaches that Curaçao offers,” said Mr. Jorge Jiménez, VP Commercial and Planning at Wingo.
Mr. José Alejandro González, Secretary of Tourism and Entertainment of Medellín said; “It is statistically proven that when a city gains more routes, its market grows. We are very pleased with the confidence that Wingo has in Medellín with this new route between Medellín and Curaçao, a market that is becoming a potential one for us.”
In 2024, Colombia has solidified its position as the third most important market for Curaçao, with a 31% increase in stayover arrivals compared to 2023. With the launch of this new Wingo frequency connecting Medellín and Curaçao, the CTB is optimistic that we will continue to expand this market and position ourselves as one of the preferred destinations for Colombians. Our goal is to welcome more than 42,000 Colombian stayover tourists in 2024 and continue driving tourism growth and the local economy. CTB, Curaçao Airport Partners (CAP), Curaçao Airport Holding (CAH) and Curaçao Hospitality & Tourism Association (CHATA) wish Wingo all the best with the new connection from Medellín.
