WILLEMSTAD- October 5, 2018 – The Curaçao Tourist Board (CTB), coordinator of the Marie Pampoen Recreational Area project, recently organized a get-together to mark the official start of works on the existing Marie Pampoen sports complex. As part of the works currently underway in that area, the sports complex will be rebuilt as a completely new facility. The Marie Pampoen Recreational Area development project is an initiative of the Ministry of Economic Development, together with the Ministry of Traffic, Transportation and Urban Planning and the Ministry of Public Health, the Environment and Nature. Ministers Steven Martina, Zita Jesus Leito and Suzy Camelia Römer, all addressed the crowd at the event, expressing their satisfaction at the announcement that the work is now officially on the way for a new sports complex. The program that afternoon also included addresses by Mr. Edfrim Reina of Fundashon Desaroyo Marie Pampoen i Bisendario(the Marie Pampoen and Surroundings Development Foundation)and Mr. Andy Janga of Fundashon pa Progreso Marie Pampoen (the Marie Pampoen Progress Foundation).
The new sports complex will include a building with office space, a snack bar, a terrace, dressing rooms and toilets, as well as a multifunctional basketball and volley field, two “bollas criollas” (boules) fields and an artificial-grass soccer field. The CTB was put in charge of developing the Marie Pampoen Recreational Area in 2015. After obtaining all required permits, construction of the western section was started in 2016. That phase was completed in 2017. Next in line now is the new sports complex.
The CTB and its partners in this project wish to thank all users of the area, and especially the inhabitants of Marie Pampoen, for their patience and understanding in connection with any inconveniences as a result of the construction. We are counting on the cooperation of all visitors to the area, to keep it clean and enjoyable, both for our own community and for the island’s visitors.
