WILLEMSTAD- February 22, 2017 – The Curaçao Tourist Bureau (CTB), commissioned with coordinating the recreational area at Marie Pampoen, recently organized a gathering to report to the ministers involved on the progress being made with the project and the results achieved. The project is an initiative of the Ministry of Economic Development, together with the Ministry of Traffic, Transportation and Spatial Planning and the Ministry of Public Health, Environment and Nature. In attendance were ministers Eugene Rhuggenaath, Zita Jesus Leito and Suzy Camelia Römer, as well as several representatives of the aforementioned Ministries. In the course of the afternoon, representatives of the CTB and Heren2 Caribbean B.V., the company assisting the CTB with the technical aspects of the project, explained the project’s developments to those in attendance. On this occasion, Minister Camelia Römer also presented the permits for the second phase of the Marie Pampoen Recreational Area.
In 2015, the CTB was commissioned with developing the Marie Pampoen recreational area. After all the required permits had been secured, construction began in 2016, focusing on the western section of the area. That phase, which includes a parking area, a beach strip, 2 palapas, BBQ and picnic facilities, a walking and jogging path, vegetation for shading and landscaping, illumination and modifications to the sidewalk at the Dr. M.L. King Boulevard, is nearing completion. After this initial phase, the plan is to move on as soon as possible with the development of the existing sports area, which will receive a significant facelift.
The CTB and the other partners in this project wish to thank all users of the area, and especially the inhabitants of Marie Pampoen, for their patience and understanding in connection with any inconveniences they may experience, and at the same time remind all users that it is only together that we will be able to maintain the area as a pleasant environment for tourists and locals alike.
