Curaçao welcomed 49,858 stayover visitors in September 2024

WILLEMSTAD – October 16, 2024 – The Curaçao Tourist Board is pleased to announce another increase in stayover arrivals, despite September being a traditionally slower season month. The island experienced a solid 8% rise in arrivals compared to September of the previous year, welcoming an additional 3,903 stayover visitors. In total, Curacao welcomed 49,858 stayover visitors in September 2024.

Top 3 Source Markets in September

The Netherlands: Curaçao welcomed 17,185 visitors from the Netherlands, reflecting an 12% rise compared to 15,334 arrivals in September 2023. Most Dutch visitors (54%) chose non-resort accommodations, while 46% stayed at resorts. On average, Dutch visitors stayed for 11.6 nights during their visit.

United States of America: The USA remains a key market for Curaçao, with a 13% increase in arrivals, reaching 11,908 visitors in September 2024, up from 10,497 in the same month last year. Many American visitors (73%) preferred resort hotels, while 27% opted for other types of accommodations. On average, visitors from the USA stayed for 5.8 nights, with most travelers coming from New York, New Jersey, and Florida.

Brazil:  Visitor numbers from Brazil surged by 24% in September 2024, totaling 3,821 arrivals compared to 3,079 in September 2023. Brazilian visitors stayed an average of 6.5 nights, with 63% choosing to stay in resort hotels.

Year to date highlights of 2024

By the end of September 2024, Curaçao had already surpassed 500,000 stayover arrivals, reaching a total of 513,875 visitors year to date. This milestone, which was only achieved in November last year, reflects a remarkable 23% growth compared to the same period in 2023. With three months left in the year, the Curaçao Tourist Board affirm to surpass its previously communicated target of 670,000 stayover arrivals.

Curaçao’s tourism sector showed solid stability in 2024, with the strategic effort to stay consistent in creating awareness in its main markets of focus. This growth highlights the island’s success in creating demand by showing its offerings to come “Feel it for yourself”.

So far Curaçao welcomed 513,875 stayover arrivals, 20,316 day trippers and 592,686 cruise passengers, welcoming a total of 1,126,877 arrivals from January through September 2024, a 22% increase compared to the same period last year.
